“I have a couple questions concerning the immigration problem in the United States, and more specifically the security issue on our southern border.  As far as I understand (and of course experienced) while I was stationed in the Air Force near the Texas-Mexican border that any Mexican citizen with proper identification and no known criminal background can legally enter and exit the United States any time they wish.  These individuals aren’t allowed to work without additional authorization but they can enter and leave the country.  With that being said then why do millions of Mexican nationals attempt or successfully cross the border illegally.  Of course, some are carrying illegal drugs so it’s obvious they would be that group would be attempting to cross without detection, but many aren’t carrying illegal drugs and we are told by many who support “comprehensive immigration” (which I don’t really know what that term really means) say that these Mexican citizens are just searching for employment and a better life.  That may be true, but again, why are they crossing the border illegally and not attempting to cross legally and then go find work. The only answer I can come up with is that they don’t have the documentation or they have a criminal background...nothing else makes sense.  With that being the case, then even if we had a guest worker program or increased the speed and numbers that can enter as registered aliens, these people would not qualify for those programs.  So the bottom line no matter what this country wants to do in the long term with immigration, the minimum we have to do is increase the security of the border to drastically limit individuals crossing illegal.”

“I once was an illegal alien for three days.  When I was working for Vohne Liche Kennels, Denver, Indiana, one of the best if not the best K-9 training center in the world one of my jobs was to travel to the Netherlands once a month or so to evaluate, and select dogs for purchase and then bring them back to the United States.  I always flew out of Chicago O’Hare Airport to Brussels so like every other traveler I needed a passport to enter Belgium.  Well on one trip I had left my passport at home and had already made my way to the airport and had unloaded the dogs that I was returning to the vendor in the Netherlands when I realized I had forgotten my passport.  Well called my boss and informed him of the situation and told him that I did have my retired military identification card with me so I was thinking of trying to bluff my way past the Belgian officials and complete the trip instead of forfeiting the cost of the airline ticket and having to reschedule the flight.  My boss wished me luck and promised to bail me out if I was detained.  No one at O’Hare Airport checked to see if I had a passport, of course that wouldn’t happen now, and when I arrived in BrusselsI was immediately detained and questioned by the Belgian Customs officials.  I simply played dumb which some know isn’t that hard of a job for me, and said that I told my supervisor that I needed a passport but he said I could get by with the my military identification, implying but not saying that I was military.  After a half hour or so they let me go and I was able to complete my trip without difficulty.  My lesson is that if you play the part, most people will buy it.”
